God Runs the Show

It has been my observation that Job clearly understood
the Sovereignty of God. This notion of sovereignty states: He rules everything
he has ever made, enforces every directive He’s ever issued, fulfills every
prophecy He’s ever spoken, and loves every person He has ever created.

God is Self Sufficient

It has been my observation while reading Psalms 50 that God is fully self-sufficient. He says – “I know every bird in the mountains, the insects in the fields are mine. If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the world is mine, and all that is in the world” (Psalms 50:11-12). In this single observation a core truth of God quietly appears. Asaph is telling us that God is self-sufficient (self-contained, stand-alone, all-encompassing). The one true living God is contained within himself. All life is in God and from God, whether we are discussing the lowly simple prokaryotes, the light from the sun, or intelligent life force of an angel, everything emanates from God. This life that God has, was not given to him, it was not a gift to him, he did not take it from something else, it simply exists in Him always – period. If there was another being that granted the gift of life to the one true living God, or any other gift, then the other being that granted the gift to God would be superior to the one true living God. Our God would not be whom we think he is. Continue reading “God is Self Sufficient”

God Is Infinite

Some days, when I head out for my morning walkabout, I look north at the Catalina Mountains; I am reminded of Psalm 121 – “to whom do I look, where do I look, what will I see?”  In those hills I see and hear the voice of God who is talking to me. Of all the things that I have written about, His infinite nature is immensely challenging. Everything we know, feel, smell, see and imagine has limits and boundaries. I suspect the notion of infinite is a bit contradictory to the way that we process information. But try we must, for scriptures is noticeably clear that God is infinite. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts (implied in Isaiah 55:9); God has no boundaries, no limits – Period. OmniScience Of God

It was my observation while reading Isaiah 40:13-14; God is saying — who has directed the Spirit of the Lord or been his counselor or has taught Him? With whom did He take counsel and who instructed him and taught Him in the path of judgment and taught Him knowledge and showed him the way of understanding? Who knows more than God? Do you know anyone? I think not! (NIV) Continue reading “OmniScience Of God”

Happiness in What We Do

If your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction.—  Psalm 119:92

Happiness is not just about avoiding the way of wickedness and folly. And it’s not about staying away from people. The life of the monk or the hermit is not the ideal of the Christian faith, as some early Christians believed. Christianity is distinguished by a lifestyle in tune with the will of God.

How can we know what God’s will is for our lives? Psalm 1:1-2 answers, “Blessed is the one . . . whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night.”

The Word of God is our source of joy and happiness. We are encouraged to meditate on it daily. We must fill our minds with God’s truth. We must feed our hearts with the promises that come from the Word of God. His Word is better than refined gold and sweeter than honey. God’s Word restores the soul and gives wisdom to the simple.

In this time when so much garbage circulates on the internet and other media, the Word is bread that nourishes and water that purifies. Through it we keep our hearts pure, and we triumph over the enemy.

Today and every day, remember to feed on God’s Word and to enjoy the nourishment that sustains us, heart and soul, on the way to full life.

Lord and God, guide us in the way of wisdom and life through daily meditation on your Word. Thank you for the joy that comes from being in communion with you. For Jesus’ sake, Amen.
