| Learning from a Songwriter |
| Francis Turner Palgrave (1824-1897) was an Oxford professor, poet, and a hymn-writer. He created the hymn titled ‘O Thou not Created with Hands’ from the words of the 120th Psalm. He wrote — Thou art where the proud in humbleness melt down, where self itself yields up, where martyrs win their crown, where faithful souls possess themselves in perfect peace. … Where he is in the heart, the City of God, thou art. Palgrave talked about the proud person, in humbleness, melting down. Today, the letter for David is about letting go of old negative feelings. Four essays help provide some background and concepts for this issue. |
Proverbs 13:18-20 says — Whoever disregards discipline comes to poverty and shame, but whoever heeds correction is honored. A longing fulfilled is sweet to the soul, but fools detest turning from evil. Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm. [NIV]
